I have been having all kinds of fun lately- and what kind of girl doesn’t like to get her hair done??? Especially if it is done by Melissa from Salon Neveah!!!!! She totally ROCKS! Not only she “GETS” me, every time she exceeds my expectations of her as a hair stylist! To say I LOVE her is understatement. I think she is THE BEST wonderful and amazing hair stylist on this planet! :) If you need to look gorgeous- look no further! :))) It is her TOP priority to make sure YOU ARE leaving her salon looking like one million dollar! I can not stress enough HOW MANY compliments I get on my hair!!!! :)) And you know HOW many times I have changed my hair style? What I love the most about her is how honest with me she is- and I come up with some crazy idea- she is not afraid to tell me that she is not going to do it, because my hair is going to fall out or turn pink after that! :)

Ok, this is how truly yours looked like {before}  :))) well, not too bad looking- but definitely lacking style! ;-)

I first met Mike and Erica at Ashley’s and William’s wedding. Mike was Bill’s Best Man at the wedding and right away I could tell how much fun he was! He had this genuine smile and fun personality that was really hard to miss! Then I noticed he was dancing with the girl, and I thought to myself- Gosh, she is so cute and I used to have the same hair cut! They seemed to have a blast at the wedding! Of course I was thrilled when Erica got in touch with me about shooting their Wedding!

Looking back at how they’ve met it is hard to believe that they used to sit just two rows from each other’s desks at work, but yet, when Mike approached Erica at the local bar at one of their separate nights out with their friends- she had no clue who he was! :) They first became friends, but when Mike told Erica he found a new job and will be leaving company soon- she felt a little sad. Same day Mike invited Erica to be his {DATE} to a friend’s wedding and since then they officially started dating. Their relationship were tossed up in the air when they found out Mike’s new job required him to live in Lexington, but at that point they both new they want to stay together and were committed to do whatever it takes. Just think of all the hours they spent driving to each other back and forth for two years JUST to spend some time together!!!

In December of 2008 Mike came up with this incredible idea to have at least one night out of the week away from friends and family for just two of them to go out to dinner and just do something fun. So it was the Monday before Christmas when Mike took Erica to Jeff Ruby’s and also offered to go ice skating after. Erica thought it was really weird of him- she just could not picture Mike on a pair of skates! She knew reservations were made for 7.45 but he insisted they get there earlier, at 7pm. She did not think too much why…Maybe just to get a drink?! When they got there and valet took their car, Mike offered a brisk walk to a Fountain Square which was two blocks away. Erica’s immediate response was : ” not really”!!!! It was freezing cold, she was wearing high heels and was already half way through the door to a restaurant!  Somehow he talked her into it! I can not help but smile when I remember Mike’s face when he was telling me this during our initial consultation! Erica was complaining all the way there and he thought: ” Maybe I am making a mistake here… ” ha ha ha! After watching people ice skating and standing by the Christmas Tree, Mike said: “so, do you want to head back?” “OH YES!”- said Erica and hurried towards the restaurant! THAT IS WHEN MIKE grabbed her hand and start telling her how much he loved her, and how perfect for each other he think they were and that he would love her for the rest of his life! Erica got suspicious but still had no clue what was going on! When Mike got on his knee, Erica gasped for air and hugged him before he could say anything else! She started crying. She can only remember Mike saying: “I’ve never seen you like this! Would you like to see the ring before you say yes?” But no, she did not care what the ring looked like! She felt terrible that she had been complaining all the way to this place, which this wonderful guy, the love of her life, chosen for this very special moment! You see how sometimes the most uncomfortable and unpleasant paths could lead you to something this wonderful and make your dreams come true???!!!

Well, just let me tell ya: THE RING IS AWESOME! :) I have a proof of that! :) We got together on Sunday - yes, there was a chance of missing Superbowl for Mike but he was good sport about it! They actually both were so much fun- I can not wait to photograph their wedding!

It was SO cold, but on a first few pictures they both still look happy and warm…. :)))

As we were progressing towards the Fountain Square we all could feel just HOW FREEZING it really was outside. I mean, I wore gloves, hat and still felt numb- look at these two- I made them wore spring clothes!!! Jumping pictures anyone? YEAH!!!!!

I AM SO EXCITED about your wedding, guys! CAN NOT WAIT!!! Thank you for giving me a chance to try to capture your love….

You know how some things in your life just meant to be? You know it. The moment it happen your heart just sinks and YOU KNOW for a fact that THIS MEANT TO HAPPEN at this particular moment in your life? Well, I believe that Lilly meant to enter in our life right this moment, today…

This morning was hectic to say the least. Gabriella was not feeling well all night and we stayed up pretty much for the good part of it. When I woke her up this morning, dressed her and put her down next to the door to wait for me to get ready- she sure was still out of it, dreaming of 100 white fluffy sheep jumping over whatever they are jumping over when you supposed to count them to go back to sleep! :))) All of a sudden she asked me a very simple question, and yet the subject of the question has never been brought up in our conversations, neither do I remember talking recently about it or even mention it in any simplest way. Her exact words were as follows: Mommy, when are we finally getting a cat? I stopped, looked and her and said: A cat, Gabby? You want us to have a cat? And she said- yes, a cat mommy. Can we please have one?! I said I will think about it. And she said she is going to ask her dad the same question next time she will see him! :) Now to back off here a little- I have been wanting a cat for a while now. It seems I always have a cat in my life, one way or another. I love cats quiet frankly. But every time I would think I want a cat- I would brush that thought off and say- c’mon Leeka, no cats, OK?! You’ve had enough cats in your life! Another responsibility in your already over-scheduled life?!….But still, lately I’ve been longing for a cuddly creature to greet me when I come home, to purr on my lap as I edit pictures, read or watch TV… And I knew I would not want a little kitty cat, II want to rescue a very special stray cat and give him a better happier life!!! So back to our today’s story! :) And Lilly!!! :))) The business of non-eventful work day at kroger took my thoughts about getting a cat out. To be honest, I do not think I even thought about it once I got in my car that morning and start driving towards Gabriella’s babysitter’s house! But then, sometime that day my wonderful dear friend Alice stopped by. She is going overseas tomorrow for quiet sometime and I could tell she was running last minute errands and had little time to talk! I did not want to keep her from getting things done, so we almost said our good byes when all of a sudden she said, Hey, Leeka, do you want to have a cat? And I said: A CAT? And she said, yes, a cat. See, there is this gray pretty cat and she is stray, she has been wondering around my house for a few weeks and wants to come inside, I’ve been giving her food, but my other cat fights with her, so I can not have them both. I feel terrible because I do not know what will happen with her by the time I come back. And before I could think of anything else I said: Yes, I will have her, when can I pick her up?! Just like that….Alice told me that it looks like someone put a flee collar on her when she was little because she had to cut it off- it was strangling her and there is still a mark on her neck, but:” she is the most loving cat you’ve ever seen”, she told me. And so we agreed to meet after work in a few hours. Before I came to meet this pretty gray cat, I already knew what I will name her- Lilly. I do not know why, the name just popped in my head and I have decided if Gabriella will agree we will name her that! The moment I picked Lilly up I KNEW that we are going to be a perfect fit for each other- what an adorable little creature! Gabriella loved her from the get go as well and kept telling me on the way home: hurry up, mommy, we do not want Lilly to get scared, she needs to get home soon! When we brought Lilly home, she immediately start purring and run around apartment like she always lived here and just been away for sometime. She got under my bed for a second and then, as me and Gabriella start working on our dinner - joined our company in the living room and laid on the chair and snoozed! That’s what I love about cats- their love to take naps as much as possible! :) She let me take pictures of her- she is not camera shy! And played with Gabriella, ate her dinner purring away, then used litter box, like a real lady-cat and then spent an hour while I edited her pictures on my lap constantly “talking” to me ( I love cats who TALK!!!!) and now is comfortably sleeping on my bed, every now and then looking in my direction as to say- come on, go to bed, get some sleep, how much longer??!!! She is perfect, perfect, perfect! In so many ways! I can not even describe to you HOW happy Lilly makes me feel! Just hearing her purr in the background makes me smile right now… She is still just skin and bones but I believe that with some time and TLC she will turn into this miniature snow tigress!!!! ….without further delay- I introduce you our new family member- Lilly!!!!!img_2385img_2425img_2429img_2430img_2443

Yesterday I was faced with the question- is Valentine’s Day even a real holiday? :-) My immediate response was: YES!!! OF COURSE!!! I do understand that this Holiday has been blown out of proportion in the United States and has been also commercialized where a lot of people feel guilty if they do not buy flowers or card or arrange for a special dinner with their sweetheart. But I knew that there is also a REAL STORY behind the Holiday. I knew it had something to do with little Valentine”s Notes and a sad love story so I’ve searched internet and gathered some “facts” known to initiate this “love” Holiday!

The word “Valentine” has two meanings. It can imply a card sent or given to a sweetheart on Saint Valentine’s Day. It can also indicate any particular person, especially a sweetheart, chosen to receive a greeting on Saint Valentine’s Day. Both implications of the word come from a time long long ago. At a turbulent period of Roman History, when a crumbling Roman empire was facing hostilities from all sides, the country needed valiant soldiers who would be ruthless and able to lay down their lives for the cause of the motherland. Emperor Claudius II felt that marriage was becoming a serious impediment in building a strong national defense as married soldiers felt disinclined to stay away from home for a long time. He issued an edict forbidding marriage to assure quality soldiers. But a kindly priest Valentine came to the rescue of young Romans and secretly married them off. But this good time was not long to last for Claudius II soon got wind of Valentine’s actions and had him arrested. Though initially impressed by Valentine’s personality and courage, the emperor tried to force his order on him and is even said to have attempted to convert him.
When Valentine refused to obey both royal orders, the incensed emperor ordered his execution. While awaiting his sentence in prison, Valentine is believed to have restored the sight of the jailor’s daughter with his reported mystical powers. This earned him the friendship of the jailor Asterius as well as his daughter. A little time before his death, Valentine is said to have asked for a pen and paper from his jailor, and wrote a farewell message to Asterius’ daughter signing it as “From Your Valentine,” a phrase that lived ever after. The Roman Empire was soon to fall, and its end brought everything back to normalcy. The people never forgot Valentine and they created a holiday in memory of their loving priest. Along with “Valentine’s Day”, the tradition of sending personal messages also gained popularity among love birds and such handwritten notes of love came to be known as “Valentine”, a name drawn from the signature of Valentine’s last letter to Asterius’ daughter. The first modern valentines reportedly became popular from the early 15th century. Following his defeat in the battle of Agincourt, the young French Duke of Orleans was captured and confined in the Tower of London for many years. During his captivity, he wrote many poems to his wife. About sixty of these remain and have been preserved among the royal papers in the British Museum. By the 18th century, it became a common practice in England to exchange hand-made cards on Valentine’s Day. People began to create valentine cards for their sweethearts by themselves out of lace or ribbons, and featuring cupids and hearts. Gradually, the American colonies took on the tradition. But only during the 1840s that Valentine’s Day greeting cards began to be commercially produced in the U.S. The first American Valentine’s Day greeting cards were created by Esther A. Howlanda Mount Holyoke, a graduate and native of Worcester.

As you can see- “Valentine” simply is a symbol of expressing your feelings and celebrating love. It is that special day when you can show that special someone how madly in love with them you are. And it really doesn’t matter what you will do this day to express your feelings: a card, candy, flowers, whatever you choose to do, I am sure your sweetheart will appreciate it and find it cute! :) I do believe that cards should be hand made and despite boring Hallmark cards- although they do have a great idea behind it, I find all of it too impersonal. They even came out with cards that have the whole message written for you now- I mean come on! Can’t you find two three sentences in your heart that truly mean something? And even if your handwriting is awful it is 100 times better then the one typed by someone who knows nothing about you or your loved one! ;)

And of course I’m thrilled when my clients ask me for help during preparation for Valentine’s Day! I did say that boudoir pictures make an awesome gift! :) I had SO much fun photographing girls who decided to surprise their loved ones this year with “spicy” pictures! :) One of my past Brides, Dilyara, was so awesome and let me share few images with you guys! These images are ESPECIALLY precious for both of us since for entire week we were not sure if I will be able to recover them at all! See, I had all my photoshoots and all of my pictures backed up and hers were the only pictures I was about to back up when my hard drive failed! She is sooooo gorgeous and I am sure her husband appreciate all the trouble she had to go through in order to make this photoshoot happen! :))

There are so many reasons {why} I L•O•V•E so-called snow storms! { And yes, I am not afraid to call it “so-called snow storms” because I am from Russia and even though from south of Russia- we do get A LOT of snow during the winter time and if we would get schools closed for every day of snow- we would never have to be in school during winter! ;) }
Snow is pure Magic! I do not like to spend too much time outside when it is cold and snowing, but- watching snow fall and cover everything is something I truly enjoy!
Today everyone panicked because it snowed so I’ve decided to panic with the rest of the population and take it easy! :)
First, I let Gabriella sneak under my bed’s covers and get few extra hours of sleep. While she was asleep, I snapped few shots of her. I love watching my baby girl asleep- she is so perfect, like little angel! And knowing that once those pretty eye lashes are going to pop open she will turn into little crazy off the wall Monkey {whom I still love very much regardless} - I am savoring these precious quiet moments when she is asleep. :)

img_2135

Once she was awake- we decided to take some more pictures of her, before she got out of bed! :))

img_2150

I told her about snow and she got so excited!

img_2158

She even agreed to pose some more for mommy, as long as I promised to take few pictures of her dolls! :)))

Then, as we were leaving the house I bribed her into taking few pictures outside… Just amazing what kids will do for a piece of chocolate! :P

She is growing so fast! Makes me so sad every time I think about how little she used to be what seems just like yesterday! :( Oh well, there is a season for everything! :)

IT IS WINTER! Enjoy the snow!!!!!!!!!!

Much love,

xoxo
